On July 6, 2020, Chinese Consul General Mr. Lu Shiwei attended the Donation Ceremony of Anti-Epidemic Supplies donated by the People's Government of Hainan Province to the State Government of Penang. Yeoh Soon Hin, Executive Councillor of Penang, Choot Ewe Seng, President of Penang Hainanese Friendship Association, and the representatives from other relevant organizations were also attending the event.
Consul General Mr. Lu Shiwei said that at the critical moment in the fight against COVID-19 in Malaysia, the Consulate General of China actively contacted relevant provinces and cities in China to raise medical supplies. This time, we have coordinated Hainan province to donate 30,000 surgical masks to Penang. Today, I'm glad to see that the People's Government of Hainan Province has overcome the difficulties of international transportation and managed to deliver the anti-epidemic supplies to Penang State Government. Today's donation is a vivid illustration of the friendly feelings extended by the people of Hainan Province to the people of Penang State and also an expression of support to Penang State in the prevention and control of the pandemic. On behalf of the Chinese Consulate, I'd like to take this opportunity to congratulate Penang upon the positive achievements it has made in the battle against COVID-19. I also hope that both sides would work together to resume local exchanges and promote cooperation between the two countries to a new level under the post-pandemic new normal, so as to make efforts to deepen the exchanges between Hainan and Penang and strengthen China-Malaysia friendship.
Yeoh Soon Hin expressed sincere appreciation to Hainan Province for its medical donation, which will help the state to better combat the COVID-19 pandemic. He said, the virus does not respect borders. Both China and Malaysia have jointly fought against the COVID-19 outbreak, by the ways of donating medical supplies to each other, to overcome the same challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Penang state government cherishes the friendly relationships with Hainan Province and hopes that the exchanges with Hainan Province will be resumed as normal soon after the pandemic ends, so that the cooperation between the two sides in various fields including culture and tourism will be further expanded.
