Chinese Consul General in Penang Mr. Lu Shiwei Met with a Delegation Led by Mr. Tan Teik Cheng - Penang MCA Chairman and Penang Port Commission Chairman

On July 14, 2022, Chinese Consul General in Penang Mr. Lu Shiwei met with Mr. Tan Teik Cheng, the Vice President of Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA), Chairperson of MCA People’s Republic of China (PRC) Affairs Committee and Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) Centre, and Chairman of Penang Port Commission (PPC) and his delegation. Both sides exchanged views on China-Malaysia relations and local cooperation as well as party-to-party exchanges. 

Consul General Mr. Lu Shiwei expressed his heartfelt appreciation to Mr. Tan Teik Cheng for his assistance in the consular protection to Chinese citizens and the promotion of the bilateral economic and trade cooperation between China and Malaysia since the establishment of the Chinese Consulate General in Penang, and praised the enthusiasm of Mr. Tan Teik Cheng for promoting the friendly cooperation between China and Malaysia, and supporting the economic and trade exchanges as well as educational and cultural exchanges between the two countries at the national and local levels.

Consul General Mr. Lu Shiwei said that the recent visit to Malaysia by Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi was a complete success. China-Malaysia relations are presented with new development opportunities. The Chinese side is ready to work with the Malaysian side to set new goals and clarify new priorities for bilateral relations, so as to push bilateral cooperation to scale new heights. It is expected that the MCA BRI Centre would cooperate with the Chinese enterprises in the consular district to play an active role in the high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, and promote practical cooperation between the two countries at the national and local levels.

Chinese Consul General Mr. Lu Shiwei said that the party-to-party exchanges are an important part of China-Malaysia relations. China attaches great importance to and is willing to actively promote friendly exchanges and cooperation with all political parties in Malaysia, tap for cooperation potential, and inject impetus into the development of relations between countries.

Mr. Tan Teik Cheng said that the series of consensus reached during Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s visit to Malaysia was inspiring. He will maintain close contact with the Chinese Consulate General in Penang to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with Chinese enterprises in the consular district and jointly promote the development of China-Malaysia friendship.
