On August 12, 2022, Consul General Mr. Lu Shiwei paid a farewell call on the Chief Minister of Penang Mr. Chow Kon Yeow.

Consul General Mr. Lu Shiwei thanked the Penang State Government and Chief Minister Mr. Chow Kon Yeow for their great support to the work of Chinese Consulate General in Penang over the past four years, and introduced the development of China and some provinces and cities in China. He said that he will continue to pay attention to the development of Penang and actively promote exchanges and cooperation between China and Malaysia at the national and local levels in various fields. He welcomed Chief Minister Mr. Chow Kon Yeow to visit China, and especially visit his hometown.

Mr. Chow Kon Yeow thanked Consul General Mr. Lu Shiwei for his contributions to the promotion of local exchanges and cooperation between Malaysia and China, and recalled the memories of working with Consul General Mr. Lu in the past four years. Mr. Chow Kon Yeow praised Consul General Mr. Lu Shiwei’s professionalism, and wished him all the best.

Consul General Mr. Lu Shiwei expounded China’s position on U.S. Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taiwan, and emphasized that the one-China principle is the general consensus of the international community. Any countermeasure taken by China would be a justified and necessary response to the U.S.’s behavior of blatantly emboldening “Taiwan independence” separatist activities and causing tensions in the Taiwan Strait. Consul General Mr. Lu Shiwei appreciated Malaysia’s adherence to the one-China principle, and introduced the white paper titled “The Taiwan Question and China’s Reunification in the New Era”.

Both parties also reviewed the economic and trade investment, cultural tourism, and friendly exchanges between Chinese provinces and cities and Penang State in the past four years.
