On October 15, Chinese Consul General in Penang Mr. Zhou Youbin was invited to send a written congratulatory message to the awarding ceremony of the 6th Kwong Wah Yit Poh (KWYP) Dr. Sun Yat-sen Awards. Deputy Chinese Consul General in Penang Mdm. Zhang Li attended the awarding ceremony and delivered a speech. More than 400 people attended the ceremony including the representative of the Chief Minister and Executive Councilor of Penang Mr. Yeoh Soon Hin, Special Assistant to the Chairman of KWYP Board of Directors Mr. Yeap Chin Yee, General Manager of Kwong Wah Yit Poh Mr. Lee Hin Chan, Deputy General Manager Mr. Lim Seng Huat, Editor-in-chief Mr. Lim Seong Eng, etc.

In his congratulatory message, Consul General Mr. Zhou Youbin stated that Dr. Sun Yat-sen was a great pioneer of China’s democratic revolution. As one of the world’s oldest Chinese-language newspaper founded by Dr. Sun Yat-sen, Kwong Wah Yit Poh always adheres to Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s philosophy of seeking the truth and advancing with the times, follows his words of “adapted to the world trend and the needs of the people” and is committed to providing social service, speaking for the Chinese community and inheriting the Chinese culture. At the same time, KWYP also actively reports the development of China and the friendly cooperation between China and Malaysia, and contributes to the enhancement of understanding and friendship between the two peoples. In order to carry forward Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s striving spirit of fighting with resilience and unyielding determination, KWYP founded the Dr. Sun Yat-sen Spirit Awards to encourage business leaders and successful people in various fields. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the awards have been suspended for two years. However, the traditional friendship between the peoples of China and Malaysia has not been hindered by the pandemic. It is worth mentioned that KWYP held the “share our love, jointly battle against the COVID-19” charity event during the early stage of the pandemic and raised more than RM1.5 million to support China’s fight against the pandemic, which we will always bear in mind. Congratulations to the grand comeback of the Dr. Sun Yat-sen Spirit Awards this year!

Since the beginning of this year, China-Malaysia relations have continued to develop in a healthy and stable manner. Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi paid a successful visit to Malaysia, and clarified that the two sides should make joint efforts in the direction of building a China-Malaysia community with a shared future, and endow the China-Malaysia comprehensive strategic partnership with new connotations of the times. Next year will be the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Malaysia, and the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). China-Malaysia relations and practical cooperation are facing new opportunities. I hope that everyone will seize the opportunity, inherit Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s spirit of “I shall press forward with indomitable will; the more setbacks I experience, the more determined and persistent I will become” to continue to strive for new glories. The Chinese side is willing to work with people from all walks of life in Malaysia to scale new heights in China-Malaysia relations and write a new chapter of the everlasting friendship between the two countries.
