On May 7, Chinese Consul General in Penang Zhou Youbin attended the Global Civilization Initiative International Symposium. Prof. Dr. Zuraidah bt Abd Manaf, Vice President of Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) delivered a welcome speech and a keynote address. Ten scholars from universities in Malaysia, Argentina, the United Kingdom, Sri Lanka, and China participated in the online and offline exchanges and discussions.

In his speech, Consul General Zhou criticized the harm of creating the clash of civilizations by the United States, which damages the human civilization, and its unilateral hegemonic bullying behavior. He said that the Global Civilization Initiative advocates respecting the diversity of world civilizations, promoting the common values of all mankind, valuing the inheritance and innovation of civilizations, as well as strengthening international cultural exchanges and cooperation, which will inject development momentum into building a closer global partnership. The Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Penang is willing to work with all sectors of its consular district to promote cultural exchanges and people-to-people connectivity between China and Malaysia.

In order to celebrate the second International Day for Dialogue among Civilizations on June 10, the ASEAN Research Centre of Community with a Shared Future at UTAR and the Institute for a Community with Shared Future of Communication University of China jointly organized this symposium.
