On September 20, Chinese Consulate General in Penang and Penang Philomathic Union co-hosted the Commemoration of the 160th Anniversary of Sun Yat-sen’s Birth. Consul General Zhou Youbin delivered a speech. Penang State EXCO YB Wong Hon Wai, former Chief Minister Tan Sri Koh Tsu Koon, President of Penang Philomathic Union Dato’ Seri Chuang Keng Kung, President of Penang Chinese Town Hall Tan Sri Tan Khoon Hai and representatives of local government and political parties, Chinese associations, Chinese schools and media attended the event.

Consul General Zhou stated that, Dr. Sun Yat-sen has made immortal contribution to the Chinese nation, and his vision for national reunification and national rejuvenation is becoming a reality step by step. The People’s Republic of China has not only undergone profound and revolutionary transformations, but also actively contributed to world’s peace and progress through its own development, promoting the building of a community with a shared future for humanity. The Consulate General is ready to carry forward the everlasting friendship between China and Malaysia, pass down Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s invaluable spirit, and join hands with all sectors in the consular district to benefit the two peoples through practical cooperation.

During the event, a short video on the history of Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s revolutionary activities in Penang was presented. Attendees laid floral tributes before the statue of Dr. Sun Yat-sen to pay their high respects.
